MTM - Features and Benefits of Utilizing XenDesktop and Other MTM Desktop Virtualization Solutions

Imagine if end-users in your organization could turn on a PC device at the office, at home, in the airport, at a hotel, at a bus stop, wherever and from any device, and operate from their own personal desktop.  Would they be more productive?  Would they be thrilled to be able to access everything they need, when they need it, and as they personally defined how they need it?  Now imagine that those very personal desktops were controlled, managed, updated, upgraded, patched and supported by you, from one centralized location.  Would you be more productive?  Would you worry less about data security? Would you require less human and operational resources to maintain the IT environments of your workforce?

Citrix CEO and President Mark Templeton, shares his insight and excitement about the future of desktop virtualization and how Citrix is leading the way with XenDesktop 4.

You can see where this is going.  Desktop Virtualization technology, although not new, is revolutionary in its value proposition, and over the past several years, has moved from “bell-and-whistle” status to a technology that is indispensable in the future IT operations to one degree or another.

Desktop Virtualization technology essentially builds and hosts unique desktop instances or images, based on the end users specific needs and work requirements, at the datacenter.  An end-user then has access to that desktop image through any PC device connected to the internet or network (through a secure authentication process of course). When distilled, the end-user experience and process for Desktop Virtualization is fairly simple:

1) A user turns on a PC device and logs into the Virtual Desktop.

2) Once authenticated, the Desktop Delivery Controller (DDC) identifies the user and dynamically assembles her virtual desktop and the appropriate desktop operating system is streamed into the hosting environment. The user’s profile is then added to the desktop operating system, and the user’s applications are made available.

3) Once the user’s identity has been verified, his desktop environment is then delivered via the ICA protocol.

The result of this process for the end-user is a unique, pristine, high definition, desktop experience for any user, from anywhere, and on any device.  The result for the IT professional is 360 degree visibility and control of all desktops in the workforce, one-stop management and maintenance for one-to-thousands of desktops, and dramatically increased security of critical business data and information.

Although the process for an end-user and what happens to ensure delivery of the desktop, at surface value, is “fairly simple”, there is a significant amount of implementation knowledge that is required, which is where MTM shines. MTM has the largest bench of Citrix Certified engineers with the most combined experience in XenDesktop rollouts than any other technology solution provider in the United States. The most companies, of the most diverse size and infrastructures have turned to MTM to develop a roadmap for how Desktop Virtualization can be leveraged the best for their unique systems.

If you are considering strategies to improve security, reduce costs, and decrease management resources need to maintain your desktop environment, then MTM and desktop virtualization is a good place to start.
